Understanding Chelstats overall ratings
A statistical interpretation of performance
Chelstats ratings summarize recorded performance using weighted categories. Skater categories include shooting, passing, handeye, physicality and defense; goalie categories include reflexes, consistency and clutchness. Positive weights reward contributions and negative weights penalize outcomes within a category.
Position matters: the weight tables below distinguish wingers, centers and defensemen, with separate categories for goalies. The same raw stat can contribute differently for different roles. These are Chelstats calculations, not EA’s official player attributes.
Compare rates and sample sizes together
For example, six goals in three games and sixty goals in thirty games both equal two goals per game. The second record provides more evidence that the rate can be sustained. A rate by itself does not describe the strength of opposition, team support or the full range of a player’s decisions.
Compare the same game title and season, and consider games played and position before interpreting an OVR difference. The detailed methodology on this page explains career progression, mixed-position weighting and small-sample adjustments alongside the category weights.
Use the rating to investigate, not to decide alone
Open the underlying player statistics and compare categories to see what contributes to a rating. Missing games or source data can limit what the calculation describes. A rating is a summary of recorded results, not a guarantee of future performance.
